Guidelines For Authors

**Journal of Human & Society receives manuscript submissions exclusively through DergiPark. Submissions made via the İlke Publishing System will not be considered. You may access our DergiPark page by clicking the “Submit Manuscript” button located in the upper-right corner of the website. Book reviews prepared in accordance with our guidelines should be sent to editor@insanvetoplum.org.

Journal Human & Society (İnsan & Toplum, JHS) is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes original scholarly articles in both Turkish and English. All submissions are evaluated by experts in the relevant fields.

To be considered for publication, manuscripts must not have been published previously in any form. Submitted manuscripts are first reviewed by the editorial board. If a manuscript satisfies the journal’s requirements in terms of content and format, it proceeds to the peer-review stage, where its suitability for publication is assessed.

Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal’s formatting requirements will be returned to the authors for revision. Revised manuscripts may then be resubmitted for content evaluation. Manuscripts resubmitted without the requested formatting revisions will be rejected on formal grounds.

All manuscripts are reviewed by two independent referees and, when deemed necessary, by a third referee. Publication is contingent upon favorable referee evaluations. Authors are required to make any revisions requested by the reviewers.

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

Submitted manuscripts must comply with the following requirements:

  • Articles must be between 6,000 and 9,000 words, including abstracts, keywords, tables, figures, and references.
  • Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word, using normal margins, 10-point Times New Roman font, 1.5 line spacing, and left alignment.
  • Tables, figures, images, and charts should be appropriately sized to fit the journal page layout. Where necessary, smaller font sizes and single-line spacing may be used.
  • Tables and graphs should, whenever possible, be created directly in Word rather than inserted as images.
  • Table labels should be bold, while table titles/captions should appear in italics on the line immediately below.

    Example:

    Table 1

    Table Title

  • Figure labels should be bold, while figure titles/captions should be in italics.

    Example:

    Figure 1: Figure Title

  • Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively according to their order of appearance in the manuscript.
  • Notes related to tables should be placed immediately below the table body and identified using lowercase superscript letters.
  • Vertical rules should be avoided.
  • Authors are encouraged to use tables sparingly and to ensure that information presented in tables is not duplicated elsewhere in the text.

Heading Structure

  • Primary headings should be centered and bold. Each major word should begin with a capital letter.

    Example: Primary Heading Format

  • Secondary headings should be left-aligned and bold. Each major word should begin with a capital letter.
  • Tertiary headings should be indented and bold. Only the first word and proper nouns should begin with a capital letter.
  • Headings should not be numbered.
  • Headings should not be written entirely in capital letters.

Page Layout

  • The first paragraph following a heading should not be indented. Subsequent paragraphs should begin with a first-line indent.
  • The version submitted for peer review must not contain any identifying information about the author(s).
  • The reference list should be included at the end of the manuscript.

Required Components of the Manuscript

The manuscript must include:

  • A Turkish title and a 150–200 word abstract accompanied by 5–8 keywords.
  • An English title and a 150–200 word abstract accompanied by 5–8 keywords.
  • For manuscripts written in Turkish, an Extended English Abstract of 1,000–1,500 words must also be provided. This extended abstract should include the article title and subheadings. It may be submitted after the manuscript has been accepted for publication.

Citation and Reference Formatting

  • The reference list should be formatted according to the APA 7th Edition.
  • References should be arranged in a hanging indent format.
  • İVT follows the American Psychological Association (APA) Style 7th Edition for citations and references. Authors must adhere to the formatting and citation rules outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.

Citations

  • Ensure that all cited references are included in the reference list.
  • Direct quotations in the summary section should be written in full text.
  • Unpublished works and personal communications should generally not be included in the reference list but may be mentioned in the text. If included, they should be listed under the section "Unpublished Works" or "Personal Communications" instead of a publication date.
  • The inclusion of a reference implies that it has been deemed appropriate and acceptable for citation in the publication.

Online References

  • Authors must provide complete URLs and the date of last access for any online references used.
  • If known, additional information such as author names, dates, and source details should also be included.
  • Online references may be listed separately (e.g., after the reference list) or integrated within the reference section.

Citations in the text should follow these guidelines:

  • Single author: The author's full name (to avoid ambiguity) and the year of publication.

  • Two authors: The full names of both authors and the year of publication.

  • Three or more authors: The primary author's name, followed by "et al.," and the year of publication. Citations can be made either directly in the text or in parentheses. Reference groups should be ordered alphabetically first, then chronologically.

    Examples:

  • “… has shown (Allan, 2000a, 2000b, 1999; Allan & Jones, 1999).”

"As recently demonstrated by Kramer et al. (2010) …"

    References Section

  • References should be listed alphabetically first and, if necessary, chronologically within the same author’s works.

  • If multiple works by the same author from the same year are cited, differentiate them by adding "a," "b," "c," etc., immediately after the year.

The journal does not demand any article processing or submission charges from authors. However, since editing and proofreading services are provided by external experts during the publication phase of the articles accepted for publication, these fees are requested from the authors. It is also appropriate to provide proofreading and editing services from experts preferred by the author.
